Juan “Kichi” Perez
Coach “Kichi” was born in Tijuana, Mexico, and raised in San Diego. As a player, he competed locally with Nomads Soccer Club, San Diego High School, and San Diego City College before advancing to the professional level. His playing career included time in Europe with Hungary’s 1st and 2nd divisions, in Mexico with Dorados de Sinaloa, and in the U.S. with the LA Blues of the USL.
Since transitioning into coaching, Kichi has been dedicated to passing on his knowledge and passion for the game. At Cardiff, he plays a key role in developing younger age groups, helping players build a strong technical foundation and confidence on the ball. At the same time, his experience also extends to working with middle-aged teams, where he emphasizes tactical understanding and preparing players for high levels of competition.
Above all, Kichi’s coaching philosophy is rooted in teaching the fundamentals, fostering a true love for the game, and instilling respect for soccer at every stage of a player’s journey.
